This silk scarf is one of a Limited Edition of 50 hand printed to order in our London studio. It comes presented gift wrapped in a black and gold embossed box with a numbered signed card certifying provenance.
The Western Stars design draws from my experience spending time in the American Southwest. I spent many weeks in Taos, New Mexico and explored the many shops and galleries there and in Santa Fé. I came away with a fabulous pair of cowboy boots and a Chimayo blanket (among other things). Here I incorporate elements from both cultures – the parallel stitching and cut-out hearts of the boots and the characteristic zig-zags of the blankets.
The making of this special piece involves the production of a full size hand-painted artwork as well as screen-making, dyeing, printing, washing and finishing. This is an extra big design which has to be printed in two halves – one the reverse of the other – a complicated and time-consuming process.
The scarf shown here is printed in red, white and black on a yellow ground with hemmed edges, fringed ends and a printed signature.
