This silk scarf is one of a Limited Edition of 50 hand printed to order in our London studio. It comes presented gift wrapped in a black and gold embossed box with a numbered signed card certifying provenance.
Some years ago I embarked on designing a collection of fruity scarves – one of which featured oranges. My Valencia design borrows from William Morris who did several patterns featuring fruit and leaves. I like the way he added spots as shading and used a similar motif here. The tree branches are arranged in a flowing shape which is contained by a strong graphic border.
The making of this special piece involves the production of full a size hand-painted artwork as well as screen-making, dyeing, printing, washing and finishing. This is a big design which has to be printed in two halves – one the reverse of the other – a complicated and time-consuming process.
The scarf shown here is printed in red, yellow and black on a white ground with hemmed edges, fringed ends and a printed signature.
